Tour of the town center of Luanco

Introduction to the Tour

On the following tour, we’ll visit all the tourist and cultural attractions the seaside town of Luanco—capital of the Gozón District—has to offer. We’ll start the tour at the lookout point overlooking Samarincha Beach, where we’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Luanco. We’ll then explore its urban beaches—La Ribera and Santa Marina—the latter being the most popular with tourists and located next to the parish church.

Historical and Architectural Heritage

We will visit its most historic buildings: the Clock Tower, the Menéndez Pola Palace, and the Church of Santa María de Luanco—all of which are Baroque in style or feature Baroque elements—as well as others, such as the Casa Mori, which is in the Modernist style.

Luanco’s Seafaring Tradition

We’ll delve into the most seafaring side of Luanco as we stroll along its waterfront, visiting the pier, La Riba Street, and La Baragaña Square, where we’ll get a sense of what sailors’ homes used to look like, with their typical Asturian covered walkways and vibrant colors, as well as stopping for a brief rest at places steeped in history, such as the Pilatos Viewpoint, right in the heart of the town’s historic district.

Lookout Points and Panoramic Views

If we head toward the La Mofosa Recreation Area, we can see the fishing village from the opposite side of the Samarincha Beach Lookout, taking in the new fishing and recreational harbor, Marina Beach…

Asturias Maritime Museum

And last but not least, we’ll visit the Maritime Museum of Asturias, a “must-see” and the oldest museum in the Principality, founded in 1948 and located at its current site since 2000. The museum consists of various galleries featuring high-quality exhibitions on marine biology, shipbuilding, fishing, the history of navigation, and other temporary exhibitions.
