The Gozón City Council is responsible for managing cookies on the website—both its own and those of third parties—which help improve the functionality of the website’s sections and features, as well as the provision of the services offered on our website.
What is a cookie?
Cookies are small files stored on the devices—computers, tablets, smartphones—you use to browse the web. They are technical elements used to store data and transmit information to the entity responsible for installing them.
We use these cookies to collect information about your browsing activity (visit, browser type, location, referral source, and links visited, as well as the time you arrived on the website). We also use them to personalize your visit by identifying your session.
Types of Cookies
Cookies can be first-party (sent to the user’s device from the domain of the publisher providing the service to the user) or third-party (sent to the user’s device by a third party other than the publisher of the domain providing the service to the user).
Depending on their duration, cookies can be session cookies (used to collect and store data while the user is accessing a website; they are deleted from the browser at the end of the session or when the browser is closed) or persistent cookies (the data is retained on the device for a period of time determined by the data controller, which can be as long as several years).
The cookies used may be technical cookies (which allow the user to navigate a website, platform, or application and use the various options or services available there), for personalizing the user’s experience (these allow the user to access the service with certain general characteristics predefined based on a set of criteria on the user’s device), or analytics (which allow the party responsible for them to track and analyze the behavior of users on the websites to which they are linked, using this information to measure website activity and to create user browsing profiles).
What cookies do we use?
We use “analytical” cookies which, together with information from the hosting server, allow us to gather data on the number of visits to our website and the most popular sections. If you are on our website, the cookies will track your session and referrers.
Our cookies are analytical, because they allow us to track and analyze the behavior of users on the websites to which they are linked, using this information to measure website activity and to create user browsing profiles. Some are necessary; without them, the website itself or some of its sections or content cannot be displayed. Others are functional.
Data collected while browsing
The Gozón City Council collects and retains only the following information about visitors to our website:
- The domain name of the provider that gives them access to the network (ISP).
- The date and time of access to our Website.
- The web address from which the link to our website originated.
- The number of daily visitors to each section of the website.
- The browser used to view the website.
Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are necessary for the proper functioning of the website and allow access to certain sections. Without these cookies, many of the available services would not work.
Browsing Cookies
These cookies collect information about how visitors use the website, such as page views and loading errors. This information is general and anonymous; it does not include personal data, nor does it collect information that identifies visitors. The ultimate goal is to improve the website’s performance.
It allows you to analyze website traffic. It helps you track visits and activities and is a service offered by Google®. The information collected by the cookie is transmitted to and stored on servers in the United States, and may be used to gather information about visitors and provide related services.
You can find more information here.
Functional cookies
These cookies allow us to remember information (such as your username, language, or the region you are in) and more personal settings. These cookies can also be used to remember changes you’ve made to text size, fonts, and other customizable parts of the website. The information collected by these cookies may be anonymous, and your activity on other websites cannot be tracked.
These are the cookies that are essential for our website to function properly. This includes the service that allows users to register, log in, and perform various functions on the website.
Any changes or updates will be communicated to all website users via banner or pop-up notifications on our website.
Do you accept our cookies?
When you visit the Gozón City Council website, an initial banner appears informing you about the use of cookies, where you can choose from various options.
Please remember that you must consent to the use of our cookies. If you do not agree, you can change your settings as explained here.
How to Set Up or Manage Cookies
Any website user can uninstall cookies or refuse to allow them to be installed. Most browsers offer ways to control how cookies work. To do this, you can use your browser’s settings—look under “Settings.” You can also use private or incognito browsing mode.
Private Browsing Mode
You can use the private or incognito browsing mode offered by most browsers on the market.
When you use private mode, you prevent visited sites from being saved, tracking cookies from being stored, download history from being saved, and login information from being stored. Passwords and form data are not saved.
What cannot be prevented is the internet service provider from tracking your browsing activity. The IP address used by the user remains visible. Browsing in incognito mode also does not protect against cyberattacks.
To access private browsing, in Chrome, go to the settings menu and select “New Incognito Window”; in Edge, go to the settings menu and select “New InPrivate Window”; in Firefox, go to the File menu and select “New Private Window”; in IE 11, go to Tools, then Security, and then select “InPrivate Browsing”; in Opera, you can access it from the Menu by selecting “New Private Window.”
Tools
There are many tools on the market that can help you manage cookies. These tools are designed to prevent cookies from working or to block their functions. For example, Ghostery or Do Not Track Me.
Configure browsers
Google Chrome
Go to Settings or Preferences via the File menu or by clicking the settings icon in the upper-right corner (three vertical dots). You’ll see several sections; click the “Show Advanced Options” or “Advanced Settings” option. Go to Privacy and Security, then Content Settings.
Select “All cookies and site data.” By default, you can leave the browser’s cookie blocking setting as is. Just set it to “Block.”
You can also filter by selecting “View all cookies and all website data.” A list of all cookies sorted by domain will appear, and you can filter the results using the search bar. Now all you have to do is select or block the cookies you want.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
When you open your browser, go to “Tools” at the top and select the “Internet Options” tab. Check the “Privacy” tab to make sure it is set to a medium or lower security level. If the Internet security setting is not set to medium, cookies will be blocked.
Mozilla Firefox
When you open your browser, click “Tools” at the top. In more advanced versions, this may appear as three lines in the upper-right corner of the browser. Select the “Options” tab. Select the “Privacy & Security” icon. Click on “Cookies and Site Data.” Select the options that appear based on your preferences—clear data, manage data, or exceptions. You can accept cookies, keep them for a set period (as default), or block them.
Safari
When you open your browser, click “Tools” at the top and select the “Options” tab. Click the “Security” tab and check whether the “Block cookies” option is selected or not. Click “Save.”

Are you familiar with tracking technologies?
Both web pages and emails (HTML) may include other tracking technologies, such as “web beacons.”
“Web beacons,” which are small “transparent” images, can provide statistical information and serve purposes similar to those of cookies. They are often used in conjunction with cookies, although they are not stored directly.
If you disable cookies, “web beacons” may still be running, but with more limited functionality.
